Exploring methods to convey my culture and ethnicity as memories that I can bring back to Australia.

Each object is representative of my culture, more specifically three places; Padang, Cirebon and Jakarta. Being born and raised in Australia, I found it hard to reconnect with my roots, meaning that the only time I can learn in person about my culture is when I go to visit Indonesia. Reflecting on my trip, these three places are where I learned the most. With my pieces, I wanted to showcase visually how I feel and connect as not only did I learn the most in these areas, but these are the locations of where my friends and family grew up, people who have shaped me to who I am today.

With ceramic vessels and brass charms, I aimed to spread my story and hopefully share an experience that others can connect with, expanding my work’s meaning into not just being a micro perspective but a collective macro experience.
